The Giants have made a move to shore up their dwindling receiving corps.

Michael Clayton is back with the team on Friday, re-signing with the club that cut him at the end of training camp because of Domenik Hixon’s season-ending ACL tear. The Giants could also be without Mario Manningham this weekend against the Eagles after Manningham suffered a concussion against the Rams. He hasn’t practiced this week and still needs medical clearance to get back on the field.

Clayton signed with the Giants last November after another rash of injuries left them shorthanded at the position. He played six games with the team, catching two passes and contributing on special teams. Clayton’s familiarity with the team’s offense made his signing an easy choice for a team that needs help immediately.

His familiarity isn’t likely to lead to a huge season, however. Clayton burst onto the scene with 80 catches for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie with Tampa in 2004, but he has never remotely approached those numbers again in his career. He has 143 catches for 1,762 yards and three touchdowns in the last six seasons.
