With only a handful of days to go until the NFL embarks on its first year without a salary cap since 1993, Commissioner Roger Goodell will address the 32 owners in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday regarding the labor situation, according to Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal.
The presentation will be part of a two-day session in advance of the league meetings that begin on March 21 in Orlando. Since all of the owners will be present for the group and committee meetings, Goodell decided to provide a 90-minute update regarding the ongoing negotiations with the union.
Some of you have asked whether there’s a chance that a new deal will be struck before Friday. The chances are incredibly slim -- due in large part to the fact that the league and the union aren’t currently engaged in round-the-clock negotiations aimed at getting a deal done or, if necessary, extending the date on which the new league year will begin.
In 2006, the league and the union extended the start of the new league year for multiple days while the two sides tried to get an agreement struck before the launch of what would have been the last capped year.
