Here’s a surprise: Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has declined to interview with the Denver Broncos for their head coaching position.

Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune and Jay Glazer of FOX both report Williams has decided to pass on the opportunity. It’s a surprise because its believed Williams has long wanted to get another chance to be a head coach.

He becomes the second coach to turn down an interview with the Broncos. Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey also turned down the interview, citing the need to prep for the playoffs. (Mularkey did interview with the Browns and could theoretically still meet with the Broncos later, although Denver hopes to name a head coach by the middle of next week.)

“Williams made the decision today after discussing the situation with family and his players,” Duncan writes.

Expect John Elway to send out an update on the situation soon.
