The Pro Football Hall of Fame currently has a 46-member selection committee made up of a media member representing each team, a member chosen by the Pro Football Writers of America and 13 at-large delegates.
That may not be the case for much longer. While on with co-host Howard Balzer on Sirius XM NFL Radio, Pro Football Hall of Fame executive vice president Joe Horrigan said that the Hall will have an announcement about changes to the that procedure that “could be” in place as soon as this year.
“Very soon we will be announcing that there will be some modifications to the selection process that would provide an opportunity for our Hall of Famers to possibly be a part of the process,” Horrigan said.
Horrigan explained that the Hall’s bylaws barred the involvement of members of the Hall from the election process and that those bylaws have recently been modified during a meeting of the Hall’s board. He didn’t offer any clues about how things will be changing, but it certainly looks like members of the Hall will have some say in who joins them in future classes.
