The Redskins officially introduced defensive coordinator Jim Haslett to the Washington media Friday, but Haslett wasn’t ready to announce what scheme he’ll run.
The former Saints head coach has run a 3-4 and 4-3 defense at previous stops and says the Redskins could be successful running either one.
“You got to decide what angle you want to go. The secondary doesn’t make a difference, but I think you got to decide what’s best to run for you to be effective,” Haslett said.
With that said, it sounds like Haslett may be leaning towards a 3-4 approach, which is consistent with previous reports.
“I think the 3-4 is a good fit for them. Guys like [Brian] Orakpo, he could really do it. [Albert] Haynesworth could do it. London [Fletcher] has done it before, I think Rocky [McIntosh] could do it. I think [Andre] Carter could be a good rush linebacker, but he’s a good defensive end, too. Those are all things we’ll go through,” Haslett said.
The Redskins may not declare their scheme just yet, but we’ll know before long based on their moves in free agency and the draft.
