Former Bills quarterback Jack Kemp, who became a politician after his football career ended and once ran for President in the Republican primary and Vice-President in the general election, died today at age 73. Kemp disclosed in January that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He played for the Bills from 1962 through 1969, winning the AFL’s MVP award in 1965. Kemp spent eighteen years in Congress, and served as President George H.W. Bush’s Secretary of Housing. His son, Jeff, played quarterback in the NFL. His other son, Jimmy, played quarterback in the CFL.
