Jerry Jones: It isn’t “unrealistic” for DeMarco Murray to play

Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray had surgery after fracturing a bone in his hand during Sunday’s victory over the Eagles, leaving his status for Sunday’s game against the Colts in doubt.

The quick turnaround from an injury and surgery to the lineup may seem like a stretch to some, but Jerry Jones isn’t ruling anything out at this point in the week. The Cowboys owner and occasional medical consultant said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas/Fort Worth Tuesday that it isn’t “unrealistic” that Murray is in the lineup although he concedes that he isn’t sure the hand can heal enough in the days leading up to the game.

“I don’t think we’d have to see him practice. I think it’s more a question of the condition of the hand at game time and what we can do to protect it,” Jones said. “I think it’s one of those that you’d like to wait and see how he’s feeling just right before the game.”

Jones expressed confidence in backups Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle, something that will also likely be part of the decision making process as the Cowboys try to finish the season strong enough to win the NFC East and host a playoff game with Murray comfortably back in his role.
