Jets add kicker Derek Dimke

The Jets have signed placekicker Derek Dimke to a three-year contract, agent Paul Sheehy told PFT on Thursday. Sheehy first reported news of the agreement on Twitter.

Dimke, who turns 23 next week, kicked for the Lions last preseason. He previously had workouts with Cleveland and Miami, Sheehy said. The Jets worked Dimke out today before signing him, according to Sheehy.

Dimke presents competition for incumbent Jets kicker Nick Folk, who connected on 21-of-27 field goals for New York in 2012. The Jets re-signed Folk to a one-year deal in March.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Dimke kicked collegiately at Illinois, connecting on 39-of-46 field goals from 2009 through 2011.
