The Jets said this week that there wasn’t a risk of falling into a trap game against the Titans because they weren’t in a position to overlook any opponent.
They are backing up those words on the field. The Jets scored on five of their six first half possessions with only a missed field goal by Randy Bullock keeping them from getting points every time they had the ball.
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a touchdown pass to Eric Decker to cap the team’s opening possession, hit Bilal Powell for another one to extend the lead to 20-0 with a little more than four minutes left to play in the half and then hit a 69-yard play to Brandon Marshall that was aided by a confused Titans defense leaving Marshall totally uncovered at the line of scrimmage. Fitzpatrick now has 25 touchdown passes on the year, four shy of tying Vinny Testaverde’s franchise record for a single season.
Fitzpatrick is 14-of-26 for 197 yards overall and the Jets have added 127 more yards on the ground against an overmatched Titans defense. The Titans offense hasn’t done much to help out that unit as they’ve picked up just four first downs, turned the ball over on a Marcus Mariota interception and allowed Muhammad Wilkerson to pick up his 10th and 11th sacks of the season.
