Before the Titans traded the first overall pick of the draft to the Rams on Thursday, the popular opinion was that the team was looking at Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil as their choice later this month.
During Thursday’s press conference announcing the deal, Titans General Manager Jon Robinson said that the team was “zeroing in” on their top choice before agreeing to the trade. Robinson referenced the wealth of picks they now have and said that it was still possible to get that player by moving back up the draft board. He didn’t say who that player might be, but did say that he has spoken to current left tackle Taylor Lewan about the possibility of adding a new player at the position.
“Taylor Lewan is our left tackle until he is not our left tackle, and I said that to him the other day,” Robinson said. “I said, “Taylor, you need to worry about playing left tackle and doing your job.’ The team will go as we go as a team. It is not one person that is going to make this team go.”
Robinson said the picks added in the trade gives the team “a chance to strategize” over the next two weeks and Lewan’s presence adds to that flexibility heading into a draft that has already started to define Robinson’s time at the helm of the franchise.
