In just four NFL games, Jonas Gray has gone from a little-known backup running back for the Patriots to the top offensive player in the AFC for Week 11.
The NFL announced this morning that Gray has been named AFC offensive player of the week for his 37-carry, 201-yard, four-touchdown effort against the Colts.
Gray, who was injured and undrafted coming out of Notre Dame, had never even played in an NFL regular-season game until October. But he worked his way into the Patriots’ starting lineup and on Sunday became the first player to rush for four touchdowns in a game that he entered with zero career rushing touchdowns since Herb Henderson of the Evansville Crimson Giants against the Cincinnati Celts in 1921.
Gray will now face one of the best run defenses in the NFL when the Patriots take on the Lions on Sunday.
