Joseph Randle clears waivers

Joseph Randle

FILE - This is an Oct. 27, 2013, file photo showing Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle watching during warmups before an NFL football game against the Detroit Lions in Detroit. Police in suburban Dallas say Randle has been arrested after taking underwear and cologne from a mall department store without paying. Frisco Police Sgt. Brad Merritt says Randle is charged with Class B misdemeanor theft. He was detained Monday evening, Oct. 13, 2014, by store security before being arrested and booked into the Frisco city jail. Merritt says Randle posted bond early Tuesday. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya, File)

No one wants Joseph Randle.

Randle, the talented but troubled running back who was waived by the Cowboys, passed through waivers unclaimed. That means 31 other teams had the chance to add him, and all 31 passed.

That’s not a big surprise, as Randle abruptly left the Cowboys last week and is reportedly facing an NFL suspension as a result of a February incident in which he was accused of domestic violence. Randle’s off-field issues are more than any team wants to take on right now.

Eventually, Randle may be able to get things sorted out and get back on the field. He started six games for the Cowboys this season and had 76 carries for 315 yards and four touchdowns. He’s a pretty good player, and some team needing a running back may sign him as a free agent.

Randle is only 23 years old and still has time to turn his career around. But it may be a while before he gets that opportunity.
