Assistants from playoff teams with a bye in the first round are allowed to interview for head coaching jobs through the end of Wild Card weekend, something that Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin are reportedly taking advantage of to meet with teams.

It looks like Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will be passing on the opportunity, however. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that McDaniels has drawn “plenty of interest” from teams looking for a head coach, but that he’s choosing to focus on Patriots business rather than meet with any of those teams this weekend. McDaniels has been mentioned as a candidate in Miami and Tennessee this week.

McDaniels will next be eligible to speak to teams when the Patriots season is over or during the week after the conference title games. That could leave him out of the running for some jobs, but there’s still much to play out before the music stops on this year’s spin of the coaching carousel.

Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has also popped up on head coaching search lists in Cleveland and Miami, but there’s been no word on scheduled interviews with either club.
