Josh Norman: No QB I’d rather go into battle with than Cam Newton

Back in the pre-Geno Smith broken jaw days, we were discussing another fight involving a quarterback and a member of his team’s defense.

Cam Newton and Panthers cornerback Josh Norman squared off during Monday’s practice, making for the unusual sight of a player in a red non-contact jersey making a lot of contact with one of his teammates. The fact that it took place on the field was a big difference from what went on in the Jets locker room on Tuesday and another is that both players remain employed by the Panthers and eager to get past their scuffle.

Newton shrugged off the scrap by saying “let’s not get it twisted about football” and called the fight a “good thing” for the team. Norman made his own nod toward bygones being bygones on Twitter with a picture of him and Newton at a movie together on Tuesday night.

Norman writes that he”wouldn’t want to go into battle with no other QB than this man” and calls the quarterback a “unique talent” who “brings it” every time he steps onto the field. That would seem to put an end to this chapter of Panthers training camp with a whimper that everyone in Carolina surely prefers to the bang felt in Jersey on Tuesday.
