Falcons coach Mike Smith said Thursday that wide receiver Julio Jones and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon were “moving in the right direction” in their attempts to get their ankles healthy enough to play against the Cardinals this Sunday.
They weren’t moving fast enough to get on the field for practice on Friday, though. Both players missed a third straight day of practice, which means that they’d have to take the field this weekend without getting any practice time in during the week. That could be a bigger issue for Weatherspoon, who hasn’t played in either of the last two games, than Jones, who returned to last week’s game after getting hurt.
Smith didn’t indicate that would be a problem when he was talking about their progress and the Falcons didn’t rule out either player on Friday. Jones and Weatherspoon are both listed as questionable.
The team also listed defensive end John Abraham, running back Michael Turner and defensive tackle Vance Walker as questionable. There hasn’t been much doubt raised about the game status of either Abraham or Turner this week, so it’s probably a good bet they’ll be in the lineup unless something else comes to the surface.
