There wasn’t much attention paid to the Ravens’ decision to sign running back Justin Forsett in the offseason, but it turned out to be a big reason why the team was able to advance to the divisional round of the playoffs.

Forsett led the league with 5.4 yards per carry, scored eight touchdowns and ranked fifth in the league in rushing with 1,266 yards. That’s pretty good return on the $750,000 investment that the Ravens made in Forsett and it’s pretty good reason for Forsett, who has played for four teams in four years, to head into the offseason with designs on landing a bigger and longer contract.

“This is an organization that first gave me my shot, my first real opportunity, and I would love to stay,” Forsett said, via ESPN.com. “There’s also a business side of it, where unfortunately I’ve been in the ‘friend zone’ for most of my career. Hopefully we can get into a deeper commitment somewhere down the road and get some stability.”

Financial details will need to be worked out, but it should make sense for both sides to put a ring on it. Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is staying put in Baltimore, which means Forsett can remain in a system that suits him and the Ravens can spend more time shoring up the secondary than worrying about who will fit in their backfield.
