Kreutz undergoing Achilles surgery

There was a school of thought late in the 2009 season that Bears center Olin Kreutz wasn’t guaranteed to return to the team next season.

The six-time Pro Bowler now has more to worry about. Kreutz will undergo surgery to repair an ailing Achilles tendon Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The recovery will take 4-6 months. Kreutz is under contract for next season cheaply and new offensive line coach Mike Tice is a big fan, so the belief now is that Kreutz will keep his starting job, despite the procedure.

The Bears have enough offensive line problems to worry about before starting over at center.
