Leonard Williams scheduled for visit with Titans

Much of the talk about the Titans leading up to the draft has centered on the possibility that they’ll select Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota or perhaps trade the pick to someone who wants to take the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner.

There’s another option, of course, and that’s for the Titans to take someone else with the second pick and leave the Mariota machinations for other teams to consider. They’ll be meeting with a player who would likely be a prime contender to join Tennessee if things play out that way.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams will visit with the team this week. Williams is widely regarded as the top defensive player in this year’s draft class after starring for the Trojans on both the interior of the line and on the edge over the course of his career. The Titans have Jurrell Casey up front and they’ve signed Brian Orakpo to go with Derrick Morgan in pass rushing roles, but there’s still plenty of room for Williams on a defensive front in need of improvement.

Williams isn’t the only defensive possibility visiting the Titans this week. Missouri’s Shane Ray and Florida’s Dante Fowler, two top pass rushing prospects, are also on the team’s list as they finalize their draft board.
