Recently, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that league insiders who connect dots believe that former (eventually) 49ers G.M. Scot McCloughan could be hired by the Packers.
There’s another team to which the tea leaves potentially point -- the Raiders.
As Jerry McDonald of InsideBayArea.com points out, McCloughan’s father, Kent, is a long-time scout with Oakland and McCloughan’s brother, Dave, works worked for the team as well. McDonald explains that, during joint practices between the teams over the past couple of years, “McCloughan made long stops at the golf cart where Al Davis was watching, paying his respects and trading ideas.”
Of course, McCloughan will be hired by no one until the 49ers cut him loose, and there’s a chance that the Niners will try to put him on ice until the draft has come and gone. But if anyone thinks that will keep him from providing insight to potential employers regarding his assessment of incoming rookies, we would like to offer you at a reasonable price the bridge that connects San Francisco and Oakland.
