Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding, who has missed San Diego’s last three games with a groin injury, is done with the team.

The Chargers announced today that they have placed Kaeding on injured reserve. However, Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego reports that Kaeding could be back on the field with another team in as little as a few weeks, because the Chargers are expected to release Kaeding as soon as he can pass a physical.

After missing all but Week One of last season with a torn ACL, Kaeding returned and played well for the Chargers this year, going 7-for-7 on field goals. But Kaeding’s groin injury caused the Chargers to sign kicker Nick Novak, and now Kaeding’s tenure with the Chargers will come to an end after nine seasons.
