At a time when more and more information regarding the NFL is becoming available, the league has pulled back on what had become a common piece of intriguing data.

Per multiple sources, the NFL no longer discloses on the daily transaction report the teams that tried unsuccessfully to claim a player on waivers.

When a player subject to waivers is cut, interested teams make a claim. The contract is awarded based on worst-to-first priority. In past years, the transaction report listed the team that got the player and the others that tried. Now, not.

As one source explained it, teams were concerned that news of an attempt to claim a player at a given position would create an unnecessary distraction for the team that tried to get the player. Now, although the information remains available to the league office, it won’t be sent out to all teams, which made it much more likely that the information would be reported.
