As of Monday, NFL owners had planned to vote Tuesday on whether to make knee, thigh, and hip pads mandatory for all players as of 2013.
Possibly due to an intention by the NFLPA to challenge any changes made beyond the confines of collective bargaining, the owners have now dropped hip pads from the proposal, according to Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal.
And so it will be only knee and thigh pads when the owners vote today.
It’s unclear -- but unlikely -- whether the change reflects a compromise with the union, given that the NFL and NFLPA have slid back into their can’t-agree-about-anything mode.
Except when it comes to stripping $46 million in cap space from the Redskins and Cowboys.
