The pace of signings in the NFL has slowed down considerably, but the Carolina Panthers are continuing to dole out big contracts.
The Panthers announced today that they have center Ryan Kalil has signed a five-year contract extension to remain with the team. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s a six-year, $49 million contract with $28 million guaranteed, making Kalil the highest-paid center in the NFL.
Kalil was the Panthers’ second-round draft pick in 2007 and he has been selected to the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons.
The Panthers previously spent big to retain running back DeAngelo Williams and defensive end Charles Johnson. Now they’ve locked up the man who will, they hope, be snapping the ball to Cam Newton for years to come.
