Raiders fire college scouting director Jon Kingdon

Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie said that he would wait until after the draft to make changes to the team’s scouting department.

The draft ended on Saturday and those changes have started. The team has parted ways with college scouting director Jon Kingdon, according to NFL.com. Kingdon had been with the team for 33 years so his departure is one more piece of the Al Davis machine that is going away now that the team is under new management.

Based on the fact that McKenzie said changes were coming likely means that this year’s draft had no bearing on the decision. Kingdon’s time was coming to an end in Oakland regardless of what the team did with their six picks over the weekend.

It looked like Jets Vice President of college scouting Joey Clinkscales would be heading to Oakland before the draft. With Kingdon out, it seems like that spot would go to Clinkscales. Over the weekend, though, Clinkscales said that he “expects” to remain with the Jets so there may be a different man on top of the scouting hierarchy in Oakland.
