The Oakland Raiders went on a run of workout warriors in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft, grabbing Clemson receiver Jacoby Ford just moments after they selected Bruce Campbell.
Ford’s official 40-yard dash time of 4.28 seconds was the fastest at this year’s scouting combine. As Rich Eisen noted on NFL Network, it was like Al Davis took over the Raiders’ war room when the fourth round started.
In 14 starts in 2009, Ford caught 56 passes for 779 yards and six touchdowns. There are concerns about his size, his route running and his hands, which is why he wasn’t selected until the third day of the draft.
But there are no concerns about his speed, as he ran a 6.52 60-meter dash in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. That’s what Davis likes about him, and in the fourth round, Ford may turn out to provide good value to the Raiders.
