The Ravens have added another player to the group competing to replace Ben Grubbs at left guard.
Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome announced Friday that the team has agreed in principle to a two-year contract with veteran guard Bobbie Williams. No financial terms were disclosed.
“Bobbie is a guy who has been in the league for a long time,” head coach John Harbaugh said in a release from the team. “We’ve played against him, and we like his style of play and his demeanor as a person and as a player. We’re excited to have him as a member of our team.”
Williams started his career with the Eagles as a second-round pick in 2000. He moved to the Bengals in 2004 and started all 118 games he played for them through last season. He missed the first four games while serving a suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs. He started the next nine games and then missed the last three after going on injured reserve with an ankle injury.
The Ravens obviously feel confident that Williams has recovered from that injury. He has primarily played right guard in his career, but he’ll likely switch to the left sides to battle Jah Reid and rookie Kelechi Osemele for the starting job.
