The Redskins released veteran defensive end Jason Hatcher as part of a busy Monday morning of clearing salary cap space.
Hatcher, who turns 34 this summer, had spent the last two years with the Redskins after playing eight seasons with the Cowboys. His release potentially saves the team $6.8 million in salary cap space if its uses a post-June 1 designation on his release.
With the Redskins releasing Hatcher and quarterback Robert Griffin III Monday, that’s around $20 million in cap savings from two moves with the new league year set to begin Wednesday.
Hatcher had hinted at retirement last season but has since indicated he’d still like to play at least one more season.
The Redskins will reportedly visit with ex-Rams defensive end Chris Long on Tuesday.
