Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was not on the field for the open portion of Thursday’s practice, but the team is reportedly feeling positive about his chances of playing against the Giants on Sunday.
Richardson was listed as out of practice on Wednesday due to back and foot injuries, so his continued absence on Thursday suggests reason for concern about his chances of making the start in Week 17. Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports that the Colts are optimistic he will be able to play, although Richardson’s ability to get on the field for Friday’s workout will impact that outlook.
Richardson missed two games with an oblique injury this season and he was benched for two other contests, but he has started the last five games for the Colts. Joe Flacco started the previous games that Richardson missed and he would be in line to start again this week if Richardson can’t go.
The Colts need two wins and help in order to make the playoffs. Facing the hapless Giants should help them get the first of those wins regardless of who is under center.
