Rex Ryan shoots his shot, makes pitch for LeBron James

2016 NBA Finals - Game Two

OAKLAND, CA - JUNE 05: LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers sits on the bench in the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the 2016 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors at ORACLE Arena on June 5, 2016 in Oakland, California. The man has already left Miami for Cleveland, so it’s not like the geography or weather renders it out of the question.

So if LeBron James gets tired of the NBA, Bills coach Rex Ryan made it clear he’d happily let the Cavaliers star bring his talents to Western New York.

“That big, ol’ rascal can come play tight end for us if he wants to,” Ryan said, via Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News.

Of course, there would be one hurdle. James is making nearly $23 million this year, so squeezing him under the salary cap might be a stretch. But Ryan said he could easily see James being a matchup nightmare, a taller Rob Gronkowski perhaps.

“Everything,” Ryan said when asked what would help James succeed at football. “I mean, you look at him. He’s physical. Look at the range. There’s no way you can cover him. Fast, physical.

“We’ll give it a shot.”

It never goes in unless you shoot it, so pondering about the 31-year-old James was worth as much as anything Ryan says this time of year. And in two more games, James will be available, so you never know.
