Rex tells Browns, Bills “no fighting,” calls out Enemkpali

The Browns and Bills are holding the first of two joint practices this morning at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, and before any actual competition started longtime friends Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine brought their teams together for a discussion on the lay of the land and the day’s rules.

The primary rule, as Ryan apparently told the teams, is no fighting.

Then Ryan looked at IK Enemkpali to make sure he was listening.

Enemkpali plays for the Bills now because he broke Geno Smith’s jaw last week in his last act with the Jets, but you probably already knew that.

The Redskins-Texans fight in a similar setting 10 days ago made Twitter headlines and made for good TV on the first episode of Hard Knocks, and these settings are prime for fighting. Guys are tired and trying to make an impression and the guys on the other side are doing the same, and after more than two weeks of training camp it probably doesn’t take much to get them riled up.

UPDATE: Not long into the first practice, there was “a skirmish.” Of course there was.

Ryan and Pettine hope their teams play nice. The teams play an actual preseason game -- as much as those can be called actual games -- in Cleveland Thursday night. That game is on ESPN, meaning you’ll probably hear a bunch more about Enemkpali then.
