Saints place starter Casillas on injured reserve

The Saints cut 19 players on Saturday, but the most surprising news to come from the team was that linebacker Jonathan Casillas will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Casillas earned himself drinks for life in New Orleans by recovering the onside kick to start the second half of last Super Bowl. But the special teamer surprisingly earned the starting weakside linebacker job in training camp. The Saints are rather thin at linebacker: they also placed outside linebacker Clint Ingram on the reserve/PUP list.

Here’s the full list of Saints cuts, some of which we mentioned before: running back Ladell Betts, defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy, offensive linemen Nick Leckey andTerrence Metcalf, defensive end Bobby McCray, fullback Jason McKie and quarterback Patrick Ramsey and waived wide receiver Montez Billings, offensive linemen Brandon Carter, Na’Shan Goddard and Jermey Parnell, linebacker Harry Coleman, cornerback Reggie Jones, fullback Zak Keasey tight end Tyler Lorenzen, defensive linemen DeMario Pressley, Jay Ross and Al Woods and safety Chip Vaughn.
