SARGENT ADDRESSES HER OFF-AIR ERROR

FOX’s Danyelle Sargent could have hid under a blanket all week after her off-air mistake while conducting a sideline interview of 49ers coach Mike Singletary. She opted instead to face the situation straight on, appearing Tuesday morning on The Dan Patrick Show. During Sunday’s pre-taped interview, Sargent mistakenly said that Singletary called his mentor Bill Walsh after being hired last week as the interim head coach of the team. The problem is that Walsh died last year. (Despite popular belief that the video has been taken down, it’s still available right here.) Sargent admits that she was nervous (it was her first sideline assignment), and she says that she misspoke. She meant to say that Singletary had called Walsh when Singletary first decided to get into coaching several years ago. The problem is that WNBC grabbed the footage from a satellite feed and presented it during Mike Francesca’s Sunday night show as something that actually was broadcast. Even though it wasn’t. Sargent also addressed with Dan Patrick the “F” bomb that she dropped on live television while working at ESPN a couple of years ago. Give the spot a listen, and then drop a comment (“F” bomb optional) as to what you think. We think she’s a good sport, and that she might end up looking back on this one day as her own personal Admiral Nimitz moment. Somewhere, Dennis Miller is saying, “What the f--k was that?”
