The Seahawks rolled over the Giants in the fourth quarter on Sunday, breaking open a tight game and waltzing away with a 38-17 victory on their home field.
One of the plays that put the game firmly in Seattle’s pocket was an Earl Thomas interception in the end zone on a pass that Giants quarterback Eli Manning tried to get to rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham. Beckham was well covered by Richard Sherman, though, and the ball came late from Manning, leading to the interception and the end of the chances for a Giant upset.
That was a negative moment for Beckham, but it was the only one on the day. Beckham got the better of Sherman for much of the day and finished with seven catches for 108 yards as the only dynamic offensive option for the Giants offense. His play left the Seahawks impressed. Coach Pete Carroll said Beckham is “a great one” and Sherman said the Giants were right to try to get the ball to Beckham whenever they can.
“Beckham is a great player,” Sherman said, via NJ.com. “They have to depend on him. They have to take risks. They have to take shots in a game like this. That was his shot [on the interception]. He was able to get one earlier, which was a great play by him. Unfortunately, they weren’t about to get this.”
The Giants season is headed for the dumpster, but Beckham’s arrival will always remain a bright spot in 2014 because it looks like the Giants have obtained a game-changing receiver to build their offense around in 2015 and beyond.
