As the Seahawks prepare to crank up the home crowd in an effort to nail down the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff field, the 12th Man has gotten a friendly reminder.
That Saints fan you’re tempted to commit multiple sins against on Monday night could be a cop.
“The Seahawks remind all fans attending home games at CenturyLink Field that undercover law enforcement officers will be outfitted in opposing team jerseys,” the team said in a statement issued earlier on Wednesday. “These undercover police officers assist security and game day staff to quickly detect fans exhibiting unruly and inconsiderate behavior.”
The statement carries this headline: “Seahawks Remain Vigilant Enforcing Fan Code of Conduct.”
As Josh Alper pointed out in one of the various email messages that the PFT staff circulates for our own internal amusement (he hasn’t vowed to murder my whole f--king family . . . yet): “The NFL’s drug policies? Not so much.”
The Seahawks and other teams (like the 49ers) have relied on undercover officers wearing gear of the visiting team to smoke out those who would be inclined to abuse ticket holders who choose to root, root, root for not the home team. Come next Sunday, more than a few cops undoubtedly will be dressed as Seahawks fans at Candlestick Park.
