On the same day starting center Max Unger sat out practice with a foot injury, the Seahawks added a second backup at the position.

The Seahawks signed center Patrick Lewis off the Browns’ practice squad on Wednesday, per the NFL’s transaction log.

The 23-year-old Lewis joined the Seahawks late in the preseason, suiting up for Seattle in the exhibition finale vs. Oakland. However, the Seahawks waived him in the cut to 53 players, and he signed with the Browns’ practice squad on Sept. 1. Lewis has also had stints with Green Bay and Jacksonville.

Unger suffered the foot injury in the Seahawks’ Monday-night win at Washington, and he was wearing a walking boot after the game, as PFT’s Curtis Crabtree observed.

Stephen Schilling is listed as the top backup to Unger. However, Schilling also backs up both guard spots. Were Unger to be unavailable for Sunday’s game vs. Dallas, it’s possible Lewis could be active as an interior line reserve.

With Lewis arriving, the Seahawks waived backup cornerback Josh Thomas, who appeared in three games this season as a reserve for Seattle.
