Defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks was the most productive player on the Jaguars defensive line in 2014, leading him to make a push for inclusion in the Pro Bowl before tearing his ACL in Week 17.
The timing of the injury eliminated any chance that he’d get to join the Pro Bowl fun and it will also impact his chances of making the same kind of impact on the field in 2015. While defensive line coach Todd Wash praises Marks’s “unbelievable work ethic,” he knows that hard work can only do so much when there’s seven months between reconstructive knee surgery and the start of training camp.
“That’s awful quick to come from an ACL tear, so he’s a little bit of a concern for us,” Wash said, via the team’s website. “He’s going to be a question mark for us going into the season, but he’s working his tail off for us now.”
Wash is less concerned about the readiness of defensive tackle Roy Miller, who had surgery to repair an injured meniscus in his knee. Having both at full strength as soon as possible next season would be a boon to a Jaguars team that figures to still lean heavily on their defense in Blake Bortles’s second season as the starting quarterback.
