Just a few weeks back, we went through the Steelers roster and guessed what players would be cut.
Cornerback Bryant McFadden was one of the names that came up, and the Steelers haven’t wasted any time letting him go.
The team announced Wednesday they released McFadden and receiver Arnaz Battle. They also waived tight end Miguel Chavis and linebacker Erik Clanton.
McFadden was getting paid like a starter, but no longer was a big factor in the secondary. Battle was a well-paid special teamer that was buried on Pittsburgh’s well stocked receiver depth chart.
The moves save the Steelers roughly $3.5 million against the salary cap next year. We anticipate the team making more significant cuts once free agency gets closer.
