The Ravens and outside linebacker Terrell Suggs have finalized a new four-year contract extension, G.M. Ozzie Newsome announced Monday.

The 31-year-old Suggs notched 80 tackles and 10 sacks in 2013. He has played his entire career for Baltimore.

Newsome said the Ravens, just as the franchise indicated at season’s end, wanted to pursue contract extensions with an eye on creating salary-cap space.

“What it does, it just allows us to have the opportunity to pursue some of our own guys but also be prepared when free agency opens up March 11, if there’s players that are attractive to us, then we can pursue them,” Newsome said.

Newsome also noted that offseason film study reminded gave him a “new appreciation” of how Suggs gives opposing offenses trouble.

Suggs, who’s entering his 12th NFL season, indicated that he would like to finish his career with Baltimore, with whom he debuted at age 20 in 2003.

“Sizzle will be a Raven for life,” Suggs said.
