The Redskins were scheduled to pick 21st overall in the first round with the Texans right behind them, but the two teams have swapped spots.
The Texans took Notre Dame wide receiver Will Fuller with the pick and gave the Redskins a 2017 sixth-round pick to move up one spot. It would appear that Redskins General Manager Scot McCloughan was able to do a good job of convincing Texans counterpart Rick Smith that Houston’s desired player would be going to Washington if the Texans didn’t make the deal.
Fuller’s arrival continues the offensive overhaul that’s gone on in Houston this offseason. He’ll join quarterback Brock Osweiler and running back Lamar Miller as new faces in an offense that was short on pizazz outside of DeAndre Hopkins last season.
Fuller’s game had plenty of pizazz when he was in South Bend. He’s got all the speed you could want in a wideout and is a threat to score every time he has the ball in his hands. He sometimes has problems getting the ball in his hands, but will likely have plenty of chances to take the top off defenses with Hopkins gathering attention elsewhere.
