The Packers energy still too low, Titans up 35-16 at half

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said last week that the Packers had “low energy” in their loss to the Colts.

The issue hasn’t gone away. The Titans scored touchdowns on their first four possessions and then recovered a muffed punt after a Packers stop to tack on a fifth that made the score 35-10 just after the two-minute warning.

Rodgers threw a touchdown to James Starks just before halftime to close the deficit to 35-16, but it stayed there when Mason Crosby missed the extra point. That punctuated a distressing half for a Packers team that looks increasingly adrift as the season unfolds.

Marcus Mariota had plenty of juice in the first half, completing 12-of-19 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns while having his way with the Packers defense. DeMarco Murray ran for a 75-yard score to open the game, threw a touchdown pass to Delanie Walker on the second drive and tacked on a 35-yard reception to set up another one. Walker has 100 receiving yards and the Titans sacked Rodgers twice.

Rodgers has put up some numbers -- 18-of-26 for 238 yards and two touchdowns -- through the air, but the Packers spotted the Titans 21 points before they did anything offensively so it’s similar to last weekend. There’s a bit more time to work with than when they finally found some offensive momentum against Indianapolis, but there’s no reason to think they’re going to suddenly stop the Titans offense cold after allowing 351 yards in the first half.

If that’s the case, it should make for another interesting round of postgame comments from the Green Bay locker room.
