The Buccaneers bent over backward to avoid television blackouts, but the Titans will not.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean reports that the Titans won’t take advantage of the league’s offer to reduce the blackout threshold from 100 percent of tickets sold to as low as 85 percent.
Tennessee joins the Colts, Chargers and Bills in saying “no thanks.” More teams are likely lining up with them, rather than sharing any more of the money they bring in through ticket sales above that 85 percent.
“We have been fortunate in that we’ve been able to sell out 100 percent for 13 years and based on the feedback that we’ve received this year, we’ll be fortunate enough to get there again,’’ Titans executive vice president of administration and facilities Don MacLachlan said. “It’s going to take some work, but we have been more aggressive this year than we have in the past.
“We are very appreciative of our loyal fan base.”
Granted, the fact the Titans have sold out 134 straight games since moving into LP Field means there’s no reason for them to accept a nickel less than they’re currently raking in.
So why would they?
