The 49ers are reportedly making a big change in their front office with Paraag Marathe losing his title as team president while remaining the team’s chief contract negotiator.
There were questions for coach Jim Tomsula about his relationship with Marathe at a Friday press conference. Those questions focused on reports that he butted heads with Marathe over the use of analytics, although Tomsula also said that he didn’t have any knowledge about the move or the reasons for it.
Tomsula explained that he mainly speaks to director of football administration and analytics Brian Hampton about those issues and that reports of friction with Marathe were untrue.
“Absolutely false,” Tomsula said.
Tomsula also addressed his late arrival for Wednesday’s practice, which was also reportedly due to disagreements with the front office. Tomsula said it wasn’t and that he arrived at the team’s facility between 4 and 4:30 a.m. before leaving the facility for an undisclosed reason and returning in time for the team periods of practice.
