Safety James Ihedigbo appears set to sign with the Lions on Thursday.

If he does, he’ll be joining defensive tackle Vaughn Martin on the defense. Martin’s agent Chad Speck announced that the veteran has agreed to terms on a deal with the Lions.

Moving to Detroit will put Ontario native Martin just a short trip over the Ambassador Bridge from his home province and will give the Lions some experienced depth behind Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Martin played just three games for the Dolphins last season after being signed as a free agent in the offseason and was released in November after having sports hernia surgery.

He saw more playing time in San Diego over his first three seasons, starting 27 games and picking up three sacks. Assuming he’s healthy, Martin, who originally visited with the Lions in February, should be a useful part of the team’s defensive line mix for the 2014 season.
