Vick exits briefly for concussion evaluation (or maybe dirt in his eye)

Mike Vick

AP

Whenever Mike Vick plays, there’s always a good chance he’ll be injured. It happened on Sunday, when he left the first half of Pittsburgh’s home game against the Cardinals with a possible concussion.

Vick took a blow to the head at the end of a 10-yard scramble, and exited to be evaluated on the sideline. He wasn’t taken to the locker room and ultimately missed only one play, leaving for a third-and-one snap that was handled by Landry Jones, who handed off to Le’Veon Bell for a one-yard loss. (Thereafter, seemingly 10-year-old kicker Chris Boswell nailed a 47-yard field goal at the stadium where a 40-plus-yard field-goal try is a big deal.)

Vick returned on the next drive, in a 10-3 game that the Steelers could somehow still win.

The Steelers could be better off without Vick; he has completed three of seven passes for six yards in 30 minutes of football. He has rushed for five times as many yards, with 30 on three runs.

Still, Pittsburgh trails only by seven points. It’s just hard to imagine how they will score seven in another 30 minutes against the Arizona defense.

UPDATE 2:54 p.m. ET: The official word on Vick is that he had dirt in his eye, not that he was evaluated for a concussion. Four years ago, the Eagles tried the “dirt on his face” excuse when Vick apparently had suffered a head injury.
