Loyalty and longevity is nice, but younger and cheaper usually wins the day in the NFL.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Vikings are cutting long snapper Cullen Loeffler, the longest-tenured player on the team.

The 34-year-old Loeffler has been with the Vikings since 2004, but lost the job to 25-year-old Kevin McDermott.

McDermott, who entered the league as an undrafted rookie with the 49ers in 2013, spent last season as an injury replacement with the Ravens. He signed with the Vikings this offseason for competition, and promptly won it.

Making $585,000 instead of $1.05 million Loeffler would have made this year helps.
