The Vikings signed long snapper Kevin McDermott to a two-year contract last year and they like what they’ve seen enough to lock him into a longer deal before the first one has expired.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Vikings and McDermott have agreed to a four-year extension that will keep him under contract through the 2020 season. Per the report, the deal is for a total of $4 million.
The deal will keep McDermott from continuing his history of finding a new team each year. Before he beat out Cullen Loeffler in camp last summer to get the job in Minnesota, McDermott played for the Ravens in 2014 and the 49ers in 2013.
Elsewhere on Vikings special teams, kicker Blair Walsh is signed through 2019 while punter Jeff Locke, who played with McDermott at UCLA, is set to become a free agent after the 2016 season.
