The Arizona Cardinals won’t be back at University of Phoenix Stadium this season. Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner says it’s too early to say whether he’ll ever play there again.
When asked about a report that people close to Warner expect him to retire, Warner said he’s not ready to decide if this is his final season.
“I never want to make an emotional decision,” Warner told the Arizona Republic, “and I think it’s easy to do, whether it’s after a game like this, to say, ‘I’m going to play forever,’ or after a bad game to say, ‘Ah, I’m done.’
“There is no question I continue to think about it and have thought about it over the last few years and will again this year. I don’t think you want to stay too long, but you don’t want to go out before it’s time.”
Warner took a lap around the stadium and greeted fans before going to the locker room after the game, but he said that shouldn’t be construed as a final farewell.
“That was my way of saying thanks to the fans because I know we’re not coming back here this year,” he said.
Warner doesn’t seem like the type to engage in a long, drawn-out process of retiring and un-retiring during the off-season. But he does seem like he’s going to wait until he’s had some time to reflect before he makes any final decision.
