A league source tells us that West Virginia quarterback Pat White was ready and willing to run pass routes during Thursday’s Pro Day workout in Morgantown, but that Mountaineers coach Bill Stewart wouldn’t let him do it. Per the source, agent David Dunn had told teams that White would indeed catch passes at the Pro Day workout. But during White’s quarterback drills, Stewart informed the scouts that White would only be throwing. Though it’s an unusual development, the source said that the head coach of the program hosting the Pro Day ultimately controls the thing, and that if the head coach doesn’t want something to happen at the Pro Day workout, it won’t be happening. “It’s his program, and he can run it the way he wants,” the source said. We’re told that White will run pass routes during individual workouts with teams. As to White’s quarterbacking skills, the thinking is that White’s performance was comparable to his work in Indianapolis.
