ESPN’s Seth Wickersham reports Bills ownership considers Austin, Texas a possible relocation destination amid stadium negotiations with the city of Buffalo.
This is almost certainly a negotiating tactic by Bills ownership, who are currently trying to get the city of Buffalo to foot the entire $1.5 billion bill for a new stadium. On top of Bills fans wanting to keep their team, Cowboys and Texans management would likely prefer the Bills to stay put as well, given the extra competition for fans, sponsorships, and revenue a third Texas team would create. Wickersham added that an unnamed source said, “there are other cities elsewhere that desire an NFL franchise and would pay handsomely for it,” when negotiating with the city of Buffalo. It’s unlikely that the Bills leave Buffalo but a lucrative stadium offer from another city would need to be matched by their current home if such an offer is presented to them.
