Saints signed FB Zander Horvath, formerly of the Chargers.
A 2022 seventh-rounder, Horvath was a rookie contributor in L.A. before toiling on practice squads last season. 27-year-old Adam Prentice is a restricted free agent in New Orleans, so perhaps Horvath has been brought on board to take his job.

    Chargers waived FB Zander Horvath.
The move frees up a roster spot for recent waiver claim, linebacker Tanner Muse. The Chargers initially carried four running backs plus Horvath past roster cuts, which seemed curious at the time. It remains to be seen whether Horvath will be brought back via the practice squad under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
  • FA Running Back #26
Chargers selected Purdue FB Zander Horvath with the No. 260 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Horvath (6'2/228) never topped more than 450 rushing yards in his four years at Purdue, but he put up some solid receiving lines including 30 catches for 304 yards in just six games in 2020. Not invited to the Combine, Horvath ran a 4.61 40 at his Pro Day with a 35.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-3 broad jump. He is more agile than expected given his size and looks very comfortable catching the ball, but he takes a while to get going and does not deliver the power his size would suggest. He may earn a roster spot as a versatile fullback who can work in the passing game.

  • FA Running Back #26
Purdue senior RB Zander Horvath (leg) traveled with the team to Saturday’s game at Nebraska.
Horvath (6'3/230) has been sidelined since he fractured his leg during Purdue’s September 11 win at UConn. Shortly thereafter, it was reported that the senior would miss anywhere from 3-7 weeks. Horvath, provided there are no issues with the leg, will give Purdue a much-needed boost in the run game. The Boilermakers rank second-to-last in the FBS in rushing yards per game.

  • FA Running Back #26
Purdue senior RB Zander Horvath is a game-time decision for Saturday’s game against Nebraska.
After fracturing his leg against UConn on September 11th, Horvath (6'3/230) was given an initial timetable of being out for 3-7 weeks. This Saturday will mark seven weeks since the injury and he seems printed to return. Head Coach Jeff Brohm said he, among others, would be a game-time decision. This Purdue rushing attack could certainly use Horvath, as the Boilermakers are second to last in the nation in rushing, averaging only 74.3 yards per game. They face Nebraska on Saturday.

  • FA Running Back #26
Purdue senior RB Zander Horvath (leg) is still not ready to play against Iowa this Saturday.
Horvath (6'3/220) ) was originally injured in Purdue’s September 11 victory over UConn and was given a three-to-seven week initial prognosis. The senior was named the Boilermakers’ starting running back to start the year against Oregon State, leading the team in rushes and yards by a large margin. HC Jeff Brohm did leave a small possibility that Horvath could return this Saturday, but said he is not likely to be ready for their tilt against Iowa.

    King Doerue
    PUR #22
Purdue sophomore RB King Doerue (undisclosed) is not in uniform for Saturday’s game against Illinois.
Doerue (5'10/215) appeared in each of Purdue’s first three games, leading the team in both rushing attempts (27) and yards (126) while also accounting for one touchdown. With the sophomore back joining Zander Horvath on the sideline, Dylan Downing (23-92-0) becomes a player of even greater importance for the Boilermakers.

  • FA Running Back #26
Purdue redshirt junior RB Zander Horvath (leg) will miss three to seven weeks after sustaining the injury last week against Uconn.
Horvath (6'3"/220) was Purdue’s starting running back to start the year against Oregon State, leading the team in rushes and yards by a large margin. The unfortunate injury sustained in the first quarter against UConn will see Horvath out nearly the entire season on the long timetable. King Doerue and Dylan Downing have been filling in for Horvath as he recovers.

  • FA Running Back #26
Purdue redshirt junior RB Zander Horvath (lower body) has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game at UConn.
Horvath (6'3/230) was injured during the first quarter, and after some time back in the locker room, he returned to the field with his foot in a walking boot. King Doerue has taken over as Purdue’s feature back, and the question now is how much time will Horvath have to miss due to the injury.

  • FA Running Back #26
Purdue redshirt junior RB Zander Horvath (undisclosed) was taken to the locker room during the first quarter of Saturday’s game against UConn.
As opposed to being evaluated in the team’s medical tent, Horvath (6'3/230) was taken back to the locker room for further evaluation. This set up as a potentially big game for the redshirt junior, as UConn fields one of the worst defenses in the FBS subdivision. King Doerue has been entrusted with the task of filling the resulting void.
